Announcing Camera+ for iPad!

Camera+ for iPad

Over two years ago we released Camera+ for iPhone. At that time we’d been working for a year in an effort to create the best camera app for iPhone. We wanted to make an app we’d love to use ourselves.

After an amazing reception and unbelievable support from all of you, Camera+ reached the incredible milestone of being #1 paid non-game app of the year in 2011, and as of today we’ve sold over 9 million copies. But there’s always been an empty iPad-shaped hole in our hearts.

On behalf of the team I’m thrilled to introduce Camera+ for iPad.

We’ve taken parts of Camera+ for iPhone, and completely reimagined, redesigned, and rebuilt others. We’ve created what we believe is the most intuitive, powerful, and beautiful editing experience on the iPad. We thought about everything that makes Camera+ great, and what we would change to have it shine on the iPad. We could have simply enlarged the existing editing interface, but people use their iPads differently. Camera+ on the iPhone is about getting great results, as quickly as possible. That’s still a part of the iPad version, but the large screen and advanced editing features allow you to focus and add detail to make your photos truly shine.

Some of the new feature’s I’d like to highlight:

iCloud Lightbox Sync

We decided early on we wanted to sync your Lightbox between Camera+ on iPhone and iPad (or 5 iPhones, if that’s how you roll). We wanted to make it so you could shoot everywhere you go — then come home and sit down to a unified lightbox and edit till you collapse. It’s all automatic, you just flip a switch in the settings and we take care of the rest.

Advanced Adjustments

Perfect your images with advanced image adjustments, including white balance, exposure, brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness and red eye removal. With Camera+ for iPad it doesn’t need to be confusing, you’re just a slider away from tweaking your images to your hearts content. Need a tad bit more saturation, give it a nudge. Need more blur? You get the idea.

Brush on effects

On the iPad you can brush on (or off) each effect with your finger so you apply it only where you want. You can set the brush size, softness and intensity for ultimate control. So don’t apply your effects to the whole image like an amateur, show some restraint and let your fingers do the talking!

Layering effects

We’ve also added layering of effects. You can now layer two or more effects to create your own unique results. Adjust the intensity of each layer and drag and drop to change the order. Why not mix “So Emo” with “Tailfins”? You have great taste, now prove it!

Shoot like a pro

Up until now we’ve avoided the elephant in the room: “Won’t I look ridiculous if I use my iPad as a camera?” — I’d love to tell you that you’re wrong and it’s amazing, but you’re not and you will. But don’t let that stop you. Be strong. Be different. Camera+ on iPad allows you to shoot just like on the iPhone. We’ve brought over the focus and exposure controls we’re famous for, plus all the other things people love from shooting with Camera+ on the iPhone. So adopt the bold shooting technique of the iPadographer and go large!

Some iPhone love too!

We’ve also updated Camera+ for the iPhone to version 3.5. We’ve added in iCloud Lightbox Syncing and also now take advantage of the full height of the iPhone 5’s amazing screen. We’ve also squashed some iOS 6 bugs and made this the speediest release of Camera+ ever.

We are confident you’ll love Camera+ for iPad. It’s on sale now at an introductory price of $0.99 for a really limited time.

I already use the iPhone version on my iPad.
I guess I’ll have to pay again to get the new one…
    That’s not really cool.

Yea.. would have been nice if you just added iPad support onto your existing application so no double purchases are needed.

Y U NO add features to iPhone app. :/

To those complaining about paying for the iPad version - it’s only .99 cents. Come on, guys. But please, please get this to work on the original iPad. Just check for the camera and don’t load that code if there isn’t one. I’m sure you can get it working in the smaller memory footprint. (I use to have to fit code in 64K, were talking over 200 MBs here). There is nothing wrong with the original iPad, except you developers (that means you Apple, too) don’t support it.

Super exited. Makes me want to get the latest iPad so I can edit photos and upload them from it.

Else I’ve got my iPad gen 1.

Like others, I wish it had been a universal app update to the one I’d already purchased, but I’m not going to begrudge you the extra $0.99. iCloud syncing is nice, and since my wife and I both have iPhones/iPads, this will get a lot of use! Kudos!

I should add, it looks SUPER-HOT on the Retina iPad.

I am powerless to resist this. Looks superb and WELL worth paying for again, by the sounds of it. iCloud syncing between light boxes is magnifique

LOVE being able to stack FX!!! This feature is worth the price of admission to the ipad app alone. Nice work

Would LOVE to download this app for my iPad. I don’t even care about paying the extra $0.99! Sadly, it’s an iPad…not an iPad 2, or The New iPad, so it doesn’t work.

I second the request to make it available for the original iPad! I would love to use this for editing!

  16. Michael Schechter
    2:26pm, September 27, 2012

If you edit on the iPad and save it, can you then take the image and save the iPad edited version on your iPhone?

    2:45pm, September 27, 2012

Awesome! I’ve been using the iPhone version of the app on my iPad for editing — this is terrific.

    — The only issue I’m seeing is that even though I enabled iCloud sync on both my iPad & iPod (4th gen), I don’t see any of the pictures which were in my iPod’s lightbox showing up on the iPad.

People are complaining about a $0.99 complete redesign of an awesome app for iPad??! It’s worth much more than $0.99, but too bad there’s a race to the bottom in the App Store.

  19. Mark Van Horn
    4:13pm, September 27, 2012

Please make this available for iPad1. It won’t install because there is not camera on it, but who needs a camera when you can take pics on your phone and sync them to your ipad where your editing can now take place. You mention this as a feature, but limit us who have the iPad from the full experience. Please remove requirement and open to all! Love you iPhone app!

For me the lightbox sync is incredibly slow or jammed. Is this working for existing photos for anyone? It’s been hours now and only new photos and 4 out of a couple of hundred older ones have appeared on my iPad version form my iPhone. Instead I have lots of empty boxes.

  21. David Brewster
    5:18pm, September 27, 2012

No problem with the 99 cents. Come on folks, these people have to eat.

I’m having no luck with lightbox syncing though. Updated iPhone app, turned sync on in both apps, but nothing happening.

  22. Matthew McGarity
    5:34pm, September 27, 2012

I’ve been craving the iPad version of this app for eleventy billion days, so thank you for: 1) delivering it; 2) making it sick as hell with iCloud sync; and 3) providing it for such a cheap price. Camera+ has always been dirt-cheap and always an app I’d be willing to pay 5x/10x more for.

For those of you like me with iPad 1s, you can get it running on your device, even though it lacks a camera. Just install it using the iPhone Configuration Utility. It works perfectly for me doing this.

  23. Peter Zounis
    5:51pm, September 27, 2012

Absolute bullshit! Sorry guys, but you’ve been teasing us with big updates for nearly a year now, then they come out only for iPad! What about us guys that have been loyal to your app on the iPhone for years in face of stuff competition! I for one would have been happy to pay for these upgrades if that’s the issue as it would have made it the only camera I need plus gotten rid of at least 2 or 3 editing apps. And the image adjustments are something that’s pretty standard on other camera apps! You dropped the ball on this one and given procamera et al the upper hand.

  24. Notgruntled
    9:25pm, September 27, 2012

Add my voice to the chorus asking for original iPad support. I don’t see myself shooting with the iPad even if it had a camera, but your awesome editing tools on the 10” screen would be worth the price of admission.

    10:23am, September 28, 2012

As a developer myself, people whining about friggin’ 99 cents makes me really sad.

Having said that, I am disappointed by where Camera+ is heading. As a capturing tool, built-in Camera app has become a go to app for me, offering features Camera+ lacks (e.g., ISO speed higher than 800 for iPhone 5, video recording, HDR, Panorama). The only time I launch Camera+ to take photos is for timer mode, which is quite rare.

As it stands, Camera+ is more of an alternative to Instagram than Camera app. It should be renamed to Photos+ (superset of built-in Photos app).

I love the idea of the iCloud Lightbox syncing. But I can’t get it to work. I have old pictures in Lightbox before I turn on syncing and I have taken a picture on my iPad and my iPhone. None of it syncs to the other device.

Love the manual adjustments. Any chance these will come to the iPhone as well?

I agree with the other iPad 1 users - why leave us out? I’m sure that putting the code in to determine if the device has a camera or not is not exactly a big deal. As a matter of fact, you did it for the iPhone version. I’d happily pay the 99¢ to be able to have full-screen editing. Meanwhile, I’ll keep using Snapseed and Iris mostly for photo editing…

One request is the ability if only sync câmera+ cloud In Wi-fi.
Because some peoples have not mutch bandwith In the Phone carrier contract.
And with the option of only upload files In wi-fi the user can have the option!

Thank you so much for the iPad version. I really appreciate the ability to layer effects, finally. It’s something I’ve wanted on the iPhone, my camera app of choice. Like some of the other commenters, I’m having a very hard time with the iCloud sync. I took 30 photos today, and only 18 or so have synced in the last 10 hours. Of the photos already in my lightbox, there are a lot of empty boxes with only a cloud icon. Would really appreciate a fix for this. Thanks for the work.

Please! Make it compatible with iPad1. I love Camera+ and it’s my main photo shooting and editing app. I’ve alredy bought the iphone and the ipad version via itunes but I don’t understand why I can’t use it in the iPad 1.

iCloud light box sync is awesome! When it works.

Now my iPhone camera+ keeps crashing whenever I switch to light box. I tired deleting the App and reinstalling it. It downloaded most of the 360+ pics previously synced to my iPad and is stuck at the last 20 or so pics. And whenever I switch to light box it crashes. I am unable to edit any new pics I take. Please fix the issue ASAP.

Devs - don’t mind the whiny, unsupportive, complainers bitching about the iPad app and unbelievably cheap .99. They are entiled, tunnel visioned and obviously oblivious to the cost that comes with making good software. Fantastic app guys!

Absolutely *Loved* taking photos during recent trip to Russia. *Hated* when your app crashed and I lost over 500 photos I was trying to move to the “camera roll” folder in order to save them to my home computer. I have tried to re-install this app numerous times and now it will not fully open. I’m at a loss. :(

My only regret is that I cannot replace the “default” iPhone camera with Camera+…..

Recently upgraded to iPhone 5 and the first app I re-intalled is camera+, is absolutely gorgeus and gives me all that I need in one single app.

    I accidentially deleted Camera+along with many photo’s.
I do “time machine” back up, but it always confuses me when I want to restore anything.
Could someone out there please “dummy it up” for me and explain how to retrieve the app without redownloading and loosing photo’s already taken!!!
    Thanks so much,

Request: can you please add the ability for user presets? For example, if I have come up with my own ‘look’ by layering 2 effects then applying vignette and clarity, I want to be able to save this as a preset so I can apply these same effects to the next image with one click instead of having to re-do all of these settings from scratch! This would be a massive time saver! Otherwise this is a fantastic app, and I’m very happy with it.

Is there a support area or forum that supports Camera+? I am unable to get the livesyncing to work between my iPhone and iPad, and I’d be interested in whether you’ll be adding IPTC editing to the app.

iCloud Lightbox Sync doesn’t work! Simply: it doesn’t work. It syncs some photos and stop to work. Nothing happens. I have to turn iCloud Lightbox Sync on and off to activate the sync again, but some photos are missing. Tired to try, i will transfer from my iPhone to my PC and tranfer to my iPad manually.
