Camera+ Version 1.2.1: The Ultra Mega Stability Release

bug killa

For this release, we’ve gone into bug-fix mode in order to make Camera+ as stable and reliable as it can possibly be. Here are the release notes for version 1.2.1 (app store link):

  •  greatly improved usability of our exclusive Touch Exposure and Touch Focus features so that you can now move around the controls once you lift your fingers, hopefully resulting in far fewer cases of pretzel-finger
  •  fixed a bug where the camera shutter button would stop functioning (again)
  •  fixed a bug where the whole app basically wasn’t working if you were using the app on a certain beta version of a certain OS (special thanks to the several people who 1-starred us for not being completely on the bleeding edge while we devlop… it’s payback time and you owe us stars… staaarrrsssss!)
  •  fixed a bug where double flash & flip controls would appear in the camera screen
  •  fixed a bug where there was a dead area with Touch Exposure and Touch Focus
  •  fixed a bug where the main screen shutter button wasn’t working
  •  fixed a bug where copying photos that were zoomed would result in unzoomed photos when pasting them
  •  fixed a bug where Touch Exposure and Touch Focus were using incorrect touch points if the camera was zoomed
  •  increased maximum zoom amount to 6× “You want the zoom? You Can’t handle the zoom!”
  •  various minor bug fixes and enhancements

The first item on the list isn’t actually a bug fix, but a usability enhancement that we decided to make after watching some people use our new Touch Exposure and Touch Focus features. It definitely makes an awesome feature even more awesome. We’re ecstatic over the response that we’ve gotten from you regarding being able to adjust exposure and focus separately and you’re going to love it even more with this release. We also have a special treat for you coming up shortly where Lisa Bettany will be showing you how to get the most out of Touch Exposure and Touch Focus. Stay tuned for that…

And the last item on the list is also a slight enhancement… because we use a very high quality zooming algorithm, we felt confident enough to bump the maximum digital zoom up a bit from 5× to 6×. Of course since it’s digital zoom, the more you zoom, the more artifacts you’ll get. But there are just some times when you can’t get any closer… like at a concert, and it really comes in handy.

Thanks to everyone who reported bugs and provided feedback. We really appreciate it and it helps to make Camera+ better and better. We do have a couple of known issues and we’ll be addressing them in an upcoming release (some of you are having difficulties sharing several photos on Facebook and some of you are having trouble seeing previews when importing into iPhoto).

And now we’re going back into feature mode. Stay tuned for some really cool things coming up soon in version 1.3 and beyond…

Thank you but PLEASE – FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND EVERYTHING HOLY – could you please add an option to skip the black DSLR screen at startup in the next release ? I miss out on many great shots everyday because of it. PLEASE ~*

Funniest change log entry I’ve read in a while.
    You guys are awesome.
Thanks for all the work you put into this.

    Nice reactivity!

When can we adjust saturation, brightness, exposure, the level (dark and bright point), add a color filter with variable transparency?

    = D

    Thank you!

    Question about “Sharing – Facebook”:
Is there plans in the future to be able to select existing Facebook albums to upload images to? Right now the only albums I see via the Camera+ sharing method is albums created via the App itself.

    Thanks!

Add GPS EXIF tags for photos in v1.2! Then I’ll make it my go-to photo app. I love to see my photo neatly placed with pins in iPhoto (synced later to iPad as well)

Any way we can adjust the some of the intensity or masking on the filters? It’s almost perfect!

    Love this app!

Awesome, looking forward to the update! Another thing that I would appreciate on the facebook topic.. the ability to tag photos. I always have to hop into the facebook app when adding photos instead of using the built in functionality.

    Hey guys,

Great work well done! Cant wait for version 1.3. This app beats Apple’s camera app by a long shot.

One think I wanted to ask thought was will you be implementing GPS data into photos taken in the app. This is a big thing for me and at the moment if I want that I have to use the (crappy) iPhone Camera app.

Please implement this feature in 1.3!

    Thanks so much!
    Well done again.

Great App!! Are you guys planning to use one of the volume keys as the shutter button (in iPhone 4)? I saw it on the preview video to 1.2 and I’ve been wanting it ever since!

Also, geo-tagging photos would be awesome. Thanks and keep up the great work!!

Can you focus this app on taking pics?

Geotagging, Timer, Exposure and Flash Compensation would be nice.

Great update, now I don’t have to do finger dancing :) . But yeah, if possible can add a option to skip the dslr screen and to the camera. It takes like 5 sec to load and that is a photo opportunity lost.

    Keep it up guys!

Can anyone else get their geotagging to work?? Location services shows it is available for on/off, but it doesn’t seem to matter what it’s set to. I can take a photo with the standard camera, and then with camera +, and only the standard camera shows the geotag location. Any help or other ideas?

I agree with SC, and I’m sure we’re not the only ones. I really appreciate the work and design that went into the DSLR look of the app, but it really doesn’t do anything for me. I wish Camera+ would always start in the fullscreen camera mode.

Nice to see you are fixing camera+ havent’t tried put the touch feature yet because it takes longer to open up this app. Hope you can put an option to skip the dslr screen it’s bad UX. And also hope you can update convert too, it’s going to be a year since it was last updated. I hope it’s not dead yet it got some serious problems and lack some features other conversion app has.

I love your app and use if everyday but it can’t replace the built in camera until it auto saves the original photo to the album and keeps metadata including geotagging.

Skip startup screen to open in camera mode. Gps tagging.

    Solid update, thanks!

Looking forward to the option to skip the DSLR screen and go straight to camera mode. ;-)

How ’bout a rotate function? I need that all the time! And I agree about skipping startup screen to open in camera mode and geo tagging.
I know you can take a photo from the DSLR screen (try it if you haven’t fellow Camera+ users), but having a full screen would be better.

Like others here, and in previous post’s comments, we need the GPS and EXIF data to be maintained when saving out to the camera roll.

However, sharing to Flickr from the app does preserve all the metadata from the time the photo was taken, so that’s at least a good workaround until you get it working with the camera roll too.

One question though, how many pictures can the lightbox hold? Is it onboard storage just like the camera roll, or is it a buffer in memory? If storage, in theory it should be able to handle as many photos as the iPhone can hold, yes? And maintain all the metadata for them?

What about those of us that use photo management apps like iPhoto or Aperture, if we’re leaving the photos in the lightbox to maintain metadata, how do we get them onto our computer while retaining the data? Could it be something simple like exporting to DropBox, or maybe an app running on the computer that will connect wirelessly and download the photos with metadata intact? I know there’s an option to email them, but it doesn’t appear that it’s sending the metadata.

Excellent app, but I need geo-tagging in my picture so I can substitute the native camera app, when will be added this feature?

Neat update but the following updates would be much appreciated:

    1. Skip dslr mode and go straight to camera mode
    2. Ability to rotate images.
    3. In lightbox mode introduce a multi-touch gesture to select more than one photo for deletion or saving to camera roll.

    Also vidcam+ would be sweet!

Was loving your app on my iPhone 4 till it just totally and utterly crashed, leaving a bunch of pics trapped inside. When I try to open the app I get a dark gray screen and nothing whatsoever else, even minutes later.

Was just about to look at the pics I took with no issues just an hour or so ago and save the good ones. Really wishing there was an auto save function.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

I am so not pleased about this.

The lightbox thing is just silly. I had been saving pics to my camera roll but not right away.

WARNING: Save any pics you want immediately so you don’t lose them!

There was no warning that there was anything wrong with this app before it crashed–and I regularly clear out the lightbox, so it’s not like I had 200 pics in there. I think there were maybe 20. What is the point of not saving to the camera roll anyway? This app has a lot of strong points–many of them–and is unmatchable. But it has a lot of silly, time-wasting features as well.

Well, it HAD a lot of strong points. Till it died.

Boo hiss to the “stability” upgrade.

And, while I’m here, ditto other requests for other “share” options.

Hey Gang! First, I want to say what an awesome app Camera+ is, it totally rocks!!! Just when I thought this app had topped out feature wise, you guys added the tap focus and tap exposure and you totally outdid yourselves, it is the best photo app in the app store of its kind.

There is one feature I have yet to find and I think would make your app even better. I would love the ability for your app to capture the metadata (the location is what I am really looking for) of a photo taken with your app, and the metadata (location) of photos taken with Apple’s camera app that are in my camera roll and I can import them into your app to capture that data and it would show me the locations (down to an address) on a map.

That would be awesome!!! So the next time I am on vacation (we went to New York a little while ago) and I shot a whole bunch of cool places on my iPhone, but looking back, I would have no idea how to get back there if my life depended on it.

This would be the ultimate feature!!!

I was surprised to see that Camera+ was removed from Apple Store, this is sad, my question is what is going to happen with the current users? how we are going to get future versions and support?
I hope you can fix issue with Apple and App si back on the store

I accidentally synced my iPhoto albums into my iPhone. How do you remove photos and albums from the iPhone which show up in camera+ ?

The Geotagging works, but only after you load the image in the Edit function. Then save it, and it will have the location tagging.

It would be nice if this step weren’t necessary for geotagging to be included with the images.

  34. Don McArthur
    5:05pm, January 25, 2011

In fact, it now appears you only have to open in Edit one time for the geotagging to work on all subsequent pictures.
