ready for sale

One giant step closer…

We’re finally just about to release Convert. Yeah, it’s been quite a long time for something as simple as a unit converter but we’ve had (and still have) a ton of other things going on. And I’d much rather that we took our time and did it right instead of rushing it.

gestation period

Phill almost hit the nail on the head today. After looking back at the original Skitch session for Convert’s design, it dates back 390 days ago, actually.

So why isn’t it live right now? I wanted to have control over when it was exactly released so I set the release date way in the future. We’re putting the final touches on the launch promotion for it and once it’s all set, we’ll change the release date and within a few hours it should be live.

What’s this launch promo all about? Well, this…

? ? ? ?

I’ll give out a free copy of Convert to the first person who figures out what we’re planning and writes it in a comment below (US-only, as it’ll be an iTMS promo code). The winner will be determined at my discretion and the contest is over when we release the app if nobody guesses correctly. We’re currently shooting for tomorrow sometime.

Big thanks go out to the team who worked on Convert… Wolfgang for his usual pixel-magic. Scott for being very influential in the UI design for this one (you’ll see what I’m talking about when it’s released). And long-time friend, Kevin Packard (show him some follow-love on Twitter), who did all the programming on it and managed to squeeze most of it in at night between his day job and shortened sleep.

Until tomorrow…

Tweeting the moment Convert is on the AppStore, or tweeting the intro video as soon as the app is on the store.

A MacHeist promotion/tweetblast with a new mission that needs convert to solve it? I hope so!

Intro price (.99), site redesign, TweetBlast. The usual.

Okay, so the first image is a cropped out screenshot of a webpage or application featuring an introduction button or graphic. Your second image is showing what appears to be a gloss bar border at the top with a deep blue gradient and a dark grey bottom. Also the corner of a triangle or rectangle that is shiny. Then your third picture is a website or app page that has been ripped open revealing a blue glowing Apple logo. The fourth image is obviously a Twitter bird(don’t like the white belly) tweeting something while standing on a branch with a leaf.
The website design doesn’t match yours or mac heists so Im guessing an iPhone application here. You obviously want us to think Twitter, so this may be a generous clue or a red herring. What I’m getting is that something is going to be revealed, like the ripped backdrop with the glowing logo. It’s going to get an introduction, so it’s something complex, maybe with rules like a game or a hunt. It’s going to involve the iPhone/iPod touch and Twitter may or may not be involved. Maybe you plan on releasing more than just convert, like maybe plasma is comming too. Or you are going to do a macheist like game. Whatever it is, I’m sure it will be cool and interesting, because that’s all you guys ever do.

The first one doesn’t make much sense to me, the third one looks like an aeroplane with the apple logo on it. The second one looks like a black laptop screen open. And the fourth one looks like a twitter box with a twitter bird icon next to it.

I see a Twitter app, from TTT. But maybe that’s just me, being unoriginal.

echosan got it. I would’ve said that it was a good find but it was more of a bad job of hiding something on our part.

The good news is that the guilty party has been properly euthanized. RIP Scott. :P

Loving the app so far, however i’m a bit disappointed that it doesn’t support conversion of Philippines Pesos.

The iphone is an increasingly popular phone in the philippines (the number one country in the world for amount of SMS and MMS sent/received).

I myself find that I convert US Dollars and Philippines Pesos on a regular basis. Ususally i have to go to yahoo’s site to do the conversion so i was extra excited with convert, till i realized that Philippines pesos is not included.

Any chance we can get an update that includes the Philippines Peso sometime soon?

Btw i tweeted about the app on twitter too. username: chealey
