Team additions

Along with the existing members of the Camera+ team, we’ve added a couple of new faces to help push Camera+ development along at a faster clip. This is how we managed to add in so many great features in such a relatively short time.

Jorge & Pedro

So I’d like to introduce to you Jorge Llubiá and Pedro Cuenca. Some of you are likely familiar with them already as they’re the people behind LateNiteSoft, the creators of the popular Mac app, Xslimmer and the iPhone favorite, Sketches.

I couldn’t be happier with the team we’ve assembled here and I’m really looking forward to continuing working with everyone on it to help bring you some very cool things in upcoming versions of Camera+ (and some other nifty things we have up our sleeves).

Go get it!

So there ya go. We strongly feel that Camera+ is the best deal in the App Store at just 99¢. After setting it live in the App Store yesterday night, it quickly shot up the charts to become the #1 photography app and we’re already in the top 15 of all paid apps. If you’ve never experienced it first-hand, we hope you’ll join the 450,000+ people who’ve purchased it and join-in on the fun.

There’s plenty more info on Camera+ on the product page… or if you’re totally convinced that you need it NOW, jump right to the App Store and start snapping!

And be sure to let us know what your favorite new features are in the comments below…

I didn’t get it the first time it was out, but glad to have it on my iPhone 4 now. It is the best camera app & will get a lot of mileage. Great work!

Still no word on why there was a 2 month silence? Nothing telling us what was coming or that a fix was coming for some of the things that rendered the app useless for so long. I think this may be a case of too little too late.

On a side note, how about adding volume button functionality for taking pictures? Just kidding :)

    YES! METADATA EXPORT!

I was *REALLY* sick of all my photos getting tagged with the time I exported them. I mean, Cam+ is nice and all that, but I DO like to have my photos somewhere other than its roll.

Fantastic. Cons are the low-res burst mode and no video recording function. looking forward to updates!!!

Great to have updates again. :)

Also small bug – If I go to the “I <3 Analog" effect page, and then click on another effect page, the "shopping cart" badge in the top right does not go away.

Never stopped using Cam+, even when it got pulled from the App Store. Love the app, and the new features make it even more amazing. How could someone not buy this app for 99¢? It takes the place of literally every other photo-manip app out there.

It would be great to see Camera+ come to the iPad, as an alternative to iPhoto. Perhaps it could link into Flickr or Facebook, to enable you to edit the images you’ve already uploaded?

I don’t know if it’s possible but … if I could edit/add the IPTC tags Headline and Caption (and having them saved to each photo) I would be really happy.

This upgrade is really nice, well done. Camera+ is once again my favorite camera app.

    EXIF data! Finally!!!!

New effects are sweet, and i’m a sucker that will buy any in app purchases, please make them cheap!

I’m stoked about the new Camera+ app, Although i think it should be noted that “burst” doesn’t export full size images, and other camera apps can do pretty fast rapid shooting at full resolution, I hope the folks at taptaptap can figure this out, since my biggest gripe is waiting for the camera icon to light up again to take another shot, and lower resolution photos aren’t an option in my opinion (especially when other camera apps can do it)

    Feature Request:
Please do background saving, I’d love to be-able to “select all” in the lightbox and save to camera roll, then exit the program and know it’s doing it in the background (this may be an API limitation, but pixelpipe can upload in the background, at least add that!)

Thanks again for a great update, I look forward to hearing more from you guys. Please, keep up the good work!

sidebar: I’m not going to get monster sad about the months of silence, i’m sure there was a reason, and even if there wasn’t this is an opportunity for you to enhance communication with us, and make everyone jolly again.

    Thanks!
    Dann

PS: Forgive my poor english :(

    Welcome back Camera+!

I search “Camera+” on itunes store every single hour when you announced camera+ is under review as I wanted to use the latest version at once. Anyway, there are few suggestions for you and I hope camera+ can finally replace the default photo and camera app.

    - I’m not the developer and I don’t know the API matter of iOS, but please add the native HDR feature if you can.
    - It’s great feature that I can check the geotag with google map in “info” of photos. Please implement the feature that browse photos by places like default photo app inside the lightbox
    - Group photos month by month.

    Thanks!

    11:33am, December 22, 2010

@Jan Erik Moström: Oh, I like this IPTC idea! Better yet, in-app presets for IPTC tags, so you don’t have to manually enter the stuff that stays the same every time.

Also, I’ll 2nd (3rd?) the HDR mode for 2.1. Pretteh please?! Preferably without the iPhone 4 requirement that Apple’s HDR mode has. Maybe take a cue from ProHDR, but boost the shooting speed. Camera already has a default 0EV, should be easy, especially now with burst mode, to either make an auto-HDR mode where it quickly fires off 3 quick shots (-2/0/+2) then processes them in the background (putting 4 final pictures in the lightbox). Or alternatively (and preferably, IMO), add a bracket shooting mode with 3, 5, and depending on how far you can adjust the iPhone’s EV, 7 and 9 shots. -4/-3/-2/-1/0/+1/+2/+3/+4. Each shot hits the lightbox, and when you select one and choose HDR in the F/X, it gives you the choice of the current 1 shot faux HDR, or choosing additional shots to process into an actual HDR.

  20. Jay
    11:44am, December 22, 2010

Hmm bummer about not having full-res in burst mode. Perhaps implementing a buffer would help?

In my testing, burst just kept shooting. Maybe implement a 10 shot buffer (so you can still work with up to 9 shot HDRs, naturally :) ), that will take the shots rapidly, at full resolution, buffered in memory, then save to the lightbox after you release the shutter button, or hit the 10 shot limit.

I know apps like Gorillapod can buffer like that, and save out full resolution burst shots to the camera roll. On 3GS, at full resolution, I hit the buffer limit at around 30 shots with that app, so ~10 shots should be a piece of cake.

quicker start up is amazing, cam plus is back on my home screen!
The only niggle I have would be the time it takes to export a photo, I dunno if this could be sped up?
Also, does cam+ keep track of the photos it has exported but then left in the lightbox, so if I do another export all thing, will it not export the photos that I have already done?

Guess I’m the only one who misses the DSLR UI. Can you bring it back and make it an option? I think that’s what made the app unique.

Other than that, good to see the app back. Great update too. Effects are better, and starts faster than Apple’s own Camera app, hence your app is now on my main homescreen.

Love the new additions. Just replaced my stock camera app as the go-to photo taker.

Echoing the above commets, I would also love to see HDR functionality added (and I am sure that if anyone can improve on that, it’s you taptaptap geniuses!!)

Thank you for all the hard work and improvements! I’m a big fan of your attention to details!

    3:14pm, December 22, 2010

I really want to love this app, but I find the lightbox to be infuriating. I don’t want to have to go into the stupid lightbox every time I take a picture just so I can get the picture in the camera roll where it belongs.

The entire behavior of the lightbox makes little sense to me. If I edit a photo, when I hit save, it saves it to the camera roll. And I can edit photos from the camera roll in the lightbox. Why not just save my photos where they belong in the first place? In the camera roll!

I think the lightbox is just like the old SLR screen. It’s a graphic that somebody at TapTapTap thinks is cool, so even though it’s confusing and adds extra steps, it’s considered to be important.

I’m really glad the SLR screen is gone and I really hope the lightbox gets deleted soon too. I love the editing features of Camera+, but it takes more steps to edit a photo than it should.

All photos should be immediately saved in the camera roll where they belong. To edit a photo, it should be as simple as opening a photo from a photo album or camera roll in Camera+.

  30. Mark
    3:15pm, December 22, 2010

Can you guys put Panorama pictures into this app? That would be fantastic!

  31. Rob
    3:18pm, December 22, 2010

I should post a positive comment as well:

Camera+ has spectacular implementation of Tap To Focus and Secondary Tap For Exposure. It’s extremely well done and makes shooting with Camera+ both easy and intuitive. This alone makes me want to use Camera+ as my main camera app… but as I said above, I get frustrated by constantly having to go into the lightbox to transfer photos to the camera roll.

  32. Jay
    3:33pm, December 22, 2010

@Rob: Think of the lightbox as iPhoto, Aperture, or Lightroom. It allows you to edit photos non-destructively (so long as you don’t commit the edits). And it’s not doing like every other photo editing app, saving the edited copy in the camera roll along with the original. At least, not until you tell it to.

I wouldn’t mind a grid view toggle, instead of the film strip, but otherwise I really like the lightbox. Take a bunch of pictures, edit (or don’t), then share how you want or save one, many, or all to the camera roll.

Prior to 2.0 the way I was getting my GPS data was sharing to a private set on Flickr, then using Bulkr to download them all from that set. Now I can finally do it in app, straight to the camera roll for importing into iPhoto & Lightroom directly, and that makes me all kinds of happy.

@Jay (not me): I liked the SLR graphic too, but it did make a frustrating extra step to get to taking pictures. I figured they’d make it an optional thing, rather than outright killing it, but cest la vie.

Ok, I give up. I love Camera+ again. I’d like to make a couple feature requests: Please add sliders for the “scene” filters too. Could you also add an adjustable filter for those blueish/greenish spots we can get from indoor iPhone photos.

  36. Mike Arnzen
    6:25pm, December 22, 2010

The new Camera+ is fantastic. The add-on effects are an immediate purchase, too!

I want the ability to NOT geotag my photos for privacy reasons. I can’t seem to find any way to turn this function off. Is this possible? Anyone? Please implement.

Great new features to the bes camera app on the iPhone! The return of camera+ just made my day, I was seriously happy to see you guys back and even improved it!

Suggestion: please make sharing easier. Like a lot of other apps, uploading to multiple social networks is faster then uploading to all of them separately. I know camera+ uploads to all o them independently, but the message for twitter is usually the same as for facebook and flickr, would be nice if you could just type the title o the pic or the message and then decide which network to upload to, which will usually be all o them with the same title/message. That it uploads all networks separately is ok, I just don’t like copying the message back and forth. Examples of other great apps that do it this way are Gowalla and instagram.

Anyway, good to see you guys back

Great to see Camera+ back again. And thank you for the great update! Only things I am missing are • HDR shots (not effect), • optional export including the original date instead of the edit date, • batch import and export and • batch edit (same effects on multiple photos). However, I really love your app already as it is.

  41. Volker Thiel
    11:08am, December 23, 2010

Very nice app indeed, but how do I apply more than one effect to a photo? Currently I think the only way is to apply the first filter, save the pic to the photo roll, then re-import it into Camera+ and apply the second filter. Am I missing out on something here? If there was a manual I’d read that, but there’s just the demo video.

    Great App!

Never used a cam app on my iphone (beside photoshop app to edit) but now that I have I am hooked! Intuitive and produces great effects!

@Mike Arnzen: While you cannot turn it off, you can remove it from photos through the lightbox. Hit the select photos button, then select the photo(s), then hit delete and in that menu is remove geolocation.

I do, however, agree this should be an option to turn on/off.

  54. iCoco
    5:20am, December 29, 2010

@ Alastair: In camera mode, just tap with a second finger for exposure control, then the WB-Lock icon will appear on screen. Now If you tap on that, the lock is set.

Now, as I have given my share, maybe someone wants to answer my above question: What does “commit edits” do? And how does it work? Thanks in advance.
    :-)

  55. John Casasanta
    5:32am, December 29, 2010

    @ iCoco:

What Commit Edits does is to”lock-in” all the current edits on photos and make them permanent. When in the Lightbox, any edits that are made to photos are non-desctuctive… you’re able to re-edit any photo and change whatever edits you made to it. This is until you save it to your Camera Roll.

The function is most useful if you want to add multiple effects to a photo. What you can do is add one effect, commit edits, add another effect, etc to “layer” them.

  56. iCoco
    6:12am, December 29, 2010

John, thank you for your kind answer. Now that’s clear to me.

May I ask one more question: On this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=WUH6DzjBcjI, from min 1:50) you say that it is possible to “add cohesion to a set of photos by adding the same effect to multiple photos”. This sounds like batch editing and that’s a feature I was desperately looking for, but I don’t see how to get this done. Would you please give me a hint?

    To John Casasanta :

I am hearing impaired. I want to share my opinion with you. I bought Camera + original app. last summer. To my understanding you had to removed this #8 see below I posted.

    8. removed “SLR” screen for a simpler user interface.

Why removed it if ” it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” I love it. I don’t want to upgrade to new version 2.0. It was beautiful designs and so realistic like old fashioned early 80′s camera SLR. They don’t make it anymore. Now all digital camera. Can you please bring it back as a “OPTIONAL.”
We can use either this classic SLR and or view like a digital camera. ( It’s shame today younger generation don’t know what is a SLR looks like years ago. )

  59. iCoco
    12:48pm, December 30, 2010

Lynda, I am one of those users who is glad that SLR screen has gone. Sure it was a nice gimmick, but at the cost of startup time plus an additional and redundant tap. So, should the developers decide to bring it back for whatever reason, I would also strongly suggest to do so only as an option for those who liked it.

Hope u can also add an option of saving directly to the camera roll instead of having to go through the lightbox.

Any chance of Tumblr support soon? Also, the lightbox is the main reason I use Camera+ as my full-time camera app. I like that I can preserve the camera roll for the final edited images and not clutter it with the original shots.

Please add the auto-HDR that the default iPhone camera app has. That’s the only reason I use the main app instead of any other camera app.

Great app – can you rename scene modes (shade, fluorescent, etc) to white balance which it really is and add one more incandescent consistent with DSLRs. Also add some context sensitive help for newbies – exposure lock wasn’t self intuitive to figure out. Overall excellent start.

Loved it. Until this morning. Shot over 1000 pictures in burst mode, a wonderful creative high. Then, when I brought them into the computer, realized that they were all 640×480. I had even checked while shooting that “high quality” was checked. You NEED to make it much more CLEAR that shooting in burst will result in a very down-res’d tiny little photo. The app has gone from first screen on my iPhone to the last screen. I doubt I’ll use it again.

Problem… after turning on timer, the number can not be made to leave the screen. Only completely rebooting the phone cleared the number. How can this be fixed?

How does one make the timer number disappear from the screen? Only a full reboot solved this.

    Hi,
I just purchased the application. I know I’m going to love using it… but I’m more a read and then do type of customer.

Is there a pdf of instructions anywhere for me to read… to really learn how to get the most out of this application for my iPhone?

    Feature Request:
Please allow burst mode and time lapse to be used together.
I bought this app in the hope that it would have both features simultaneously enabled.
Consoltation: It has most of the features of HDR Pro and Joby Gorillacam in one app.

I love the app. A few features I’d love would be to give it the ability to keep the phone from going to sleep while running. An example would be taking a road trip and catching a quick photo when the shot appears and not having to unlock the phone again. Also, I’d love to see a histogram overlayed on the main photo taking screen. That feature alone would push this app over the top.

@Eric Mook – i have the same problem. my lightbox got corrupted and all the photos i’ve taken the past month can no longer be accessed. I emailed their support team twice but i’m not getting any response.

@taptaptap – please help your customers out. I’ve been using your app until recently when i had to switch to Genius because i could no longer access my lightbox.

I like what I hear about this camera and already have it on my iphone. However, I am the kind of person that needs a show-me manual. Where do I find the guide/manual on the camera? Or do I? How do I know what to do next? I really, really need a step by step instruction to use it the way it should be used. Thanks for the help.

I’ve used this app daily since first downloading it a few months ago. It’s the only photo app I love and use!
Today I opened it, shot a few great pictures then got a pop-up saying the database was corrupted and I needed to contact them to recover my images, which are all gone.
Has anyone else had this issue? What’s the fix? I really hope it can be worked out. Even if I wanted to start over I cant, I tried to simply reshoot and it just crashes the app when I do. Please help!

Great Camera app – Please add a quick HDR rapid fire and process button. As you know photos are way better using HDR and Camera+ is the best Camera app out there – so you’ll continue to lead the competition. You could also make it an in-App purchase. Happy to pay for it as am sure your quality of HDR will be way better.

Also please add a Video button – no post processing is required. Sometimes when you are taking photos you need to capture a video quickly. Switching to the regular iPhone camera app takes time and the moment is gone.

I love love love this app!! I love all of the edit functions, especially the clarity and scenery ones. My BIGGEST concern is that I have so many pictures that I have taken with a digital camera that I want to apply the same edits to on my PC. Is there any way to make than happen? PC program?

It would be nice to have a PC app for big screen editing. It would also be nice to have a mode where camera meters for background and flash meters for subject, very useful when subject is in the shade.

Yes, just like the above comment; I need a full explanation of the “wb lock”: what it does, how to use it, & how to use it to it’s best ability. I can’t figure out the difference right now no matter *what* I do (this has *never* happened to me before in an app- I’ve always been able to figure everything out!)!
So pretty please, can anyone give me a full explanation of what the “wb lock” is, what it does, & how to use it to it’s best ability? Thank you very much!

Took some great shots in burst mode, but after saving them to the camera roll and importing, they are only .3megapixel, not 5mp like the other pix. If there’s such a huge trade off on burst, can you let us know? Or did something odd just happen to me?

    best camera app!
manual adjustments are what photographers need!

but its to easy to delete from light box!!

whilst showing off a great pic i embarrassingly and accidentally hit delete !!??

i panicked, and only saw the ‘undo’ after i took another pic in-order to delete it, to see whether or not it could be restored.
does anybody know if a deleted pic from light box can be recovered?
surely its still there some where??

I have the same problem tat vas (above) had. Exceot I thought I was saving from the light box to camera role. Accidentally hit “Share” instead of “Save”. I tried to back up but ended up deleting them. Now I have the unwanted photos in the lightbox and the “wanted” photos have disappeared.

Is there some way to get them back?

    Thanks !!!

I am writing in regards to a mishap with my iphone. When I tried to update it to the 6.0 version, it went into recovery mode and the only way to get out of that mode is to restore my phone. I paid and downloaded an app to retrieve my data and pictures, unfortunately, this did not include the ones from my camera+ app. I had some very sentimental photos on there including ones from my sister’s wedding. Any way to retrieve them? Thank you for your time and consideration.

    Howdy Folks!

I just upgraded to 3.6.1 on my iphone 4. When I selected all 4,000+ photos in my lightbox and tapped the copy button, all 4,000+ photos disappeared. Where did they go and more importantly how do I get them back? Btw, I wasn’t connected to my computer when I did this and the pictures do not show up in the photo… Also, just noticed that while in the camera mode – it still shows that 930 photos are there in the bottom left lightbox window. When you click on that window, there are no photos in the lightbox gallery.

Thanks ahead of time for your help!
    Jon
